Abby Isquith
LICSW PLLC
Hi, I'm Abby! I am a therapist located in North Seattle seeing clients in person in the Fremont neighborhood.

For over fifteen years, I have provided one-on-one therapy to clients with a variety of conditions and backgrounds. In pursuit of this career, I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh in 2008.
My Approach
My approach to therapy is a both goal oriented and client centered. I strive to have the patient drive what we are working on and discussing, but I also try to follow up and focus on the goals that you set in therapy, so that in the end you feel that you are getting something out of our sessions.

My first appointments with new clients are typically spent understanding what brought you to meeting with me, a snapshot of your life right now and setting up some goals for therapy. Clients often come away from these initial sessions feeling heard, having the space to talk about what they need, but also learning some coping techniques that they can practice between sessions. We will also identify strengths, what’s working well in your life, and the things that can be changed to get you to where you want to be. I strive to go at your pace, so if you need time to open up or are ready to dive right in, I am able to be flexible.

After the assessment process, we will set some goals for therapy. Depending on what those goals are, it will drive the modality that we will use in our sessions together. At times, therapy can be hard, but my goal is to try to teach you the tools so that you have coping techniques to manage difficult emotions that may come up. My ultimate goal is for you develop the skills and tools that you can use to have the life that you desire.

Modalities
The treatment modalities that I use include a blend of:
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy – examining the thoughts that you have and how they affect the way that you feel and behave.
-
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy - a skills based therapy that helps clients learn distress tolerance, emotional regulation, mindfulness skills and interpersonal effectiveness skills.
-
Mindfulness - this is the practice of learning to be in the present moment
-
Psychoeducation - Education about psychology, the mind and body.
-
Supportive Therapy - Listening and allowing clients to have a neutral person to talk to without judgement
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy - this is a newer therapy for me; this modality is focused on helping people embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or feeling guilty for having them, and then focus on actions that they might take to change the way they are behaving.

I hope to develop a genuine relationship with my clients where you feel comfortable bringing anything that you need to discuss to our sessions.
